The building blocks of Faith, Hope and Charity are like a three-legged stool. They are the three great virtues of humanity. Some have written that the word or action of Charity is the greatest of the three. I agree. Yet, I can clearly see that all three are interchangeable.
Think of it this way – planting the seeds of Faith within one’s soul nurtures the possibility of Hope. When these two tenets mesh together, it guides us to become open to the qualities of Charity, which is to be in service to others, and that action then implants your heart with pure love. The word Charity means so much more than tithing or gifting financial resources, it is any action taken to better the existence of another. Take for instance, holding the door for someone to walk through in front of you or stopping to help someone in need even when you are in a hurry. Being charitable towards one another is not just “a nice thing to do”; it is imperative for our survival as humans, and for our well-being as a global community.
I pondered the many meanings of Charity and even went so far as to look up some associated definitions to make my point:
Altruism – A desire to help other people without regard to yourself; a devotion to another’s feelings that demonstrate a desire to help.
Benevolence – Maintaining a disposition to do good by performing acts of kindness or bequeathing generous gifts of oneself.
Compassion – Possessing a feeling of wanting to help another in need or offer a conscious desire to alleviate their suffering.
Generosity – Maintaining a quality of being kind, understanding and never selfish. Possessing the willingness to give valuable things to others.
I believe the world needs now, more than ever, an infusion of Charity into our humanity. The ugly swords of late have placed this call upon my heart. I have FAITH in all of my fellow followers that we will walk together through these difficult times. I have HOPE that our souls will be anchored in a safe harbor as the storm rages onward. And, I have a call to action for CHARITY to find all of us ~ as Charity upholds and purifies our ability to love. Through this endeavor, we find our way to divine Love and realize the fruits of these actions – which are: Joy, Peace, and Harmony.
So, go on out and find a way to deliver some form of Charity today, and tomorrow too! Even the smallest amount is significant.
