THE BENEFITS OF SISTERHOOD

The month of September’s schedule is already chocked full. Despite the harried pace and stress that comes from an overextended calendar, I’m always left feeling enriched since I set aside time each day to dedicate to serving others in some manner.

This is an important part of the work I do – to look for opportunities to be kind and thus better my humanity. I greatly believe that by doing this important work, I will inspire others to find time to do the same. Each small contribution you take towards making another person comfortable, improving a situation or investing in the future results in an abundance of good coming your way.

In the few hours I had set aside, I decided to use them wisely by dedicating them to a friend in need. My unexpected reward was a brilliant return of Love back to me. Intangible as that seems, the feeling of calm and serenity that followed was astounding.

My dear friend, whose natural loving nature put her in service to a comrade who lost his loving spouse this week, spent her hours in both administering the day-to-day at the same time she was saying her goodbyes. That’s a tough call to heed. Now, that her purpose has been fulfilled, she will begin to prepare for many new changes that will be coming to her own life. This is something we have been talking though for some time now, and wherein there have been many obstacles in getting her to a place of peaceful acceptance, we held tight to each other in counsel and got past every single one. Miraculously, she is thinking of her new journey as an adventure and approaching each step with a song in her heart. That’s the way it is with sisterhood, you just hold hands and run like hell to the finish line!

I hope this week will be fulfilling for to you, too. Pearl Bailey is scheduled to be beautified later this week. When she has been bathed and brushed and the filth removed from the last dirt pile she embraced, I will post her resplendent photo! Let’s see how long her clean pelt lasts.

As I write this, I am still on a high myself with a house full of genuine love and a feeling of do-good in my heart. And, that folks, is a very good place to be!
