I believe in angels. I believe in divine messages received in meditation. I believe in the grace God sends us when we are grappling with life’s mysteries. This is a story about the peace found from divine spiritual connection.
Sister Golden Hair, my blue-eyed baby sister, was a soul who was borne to a purpose. She arrived in our family later in life thus making me (the original baby of the family) a 16-year older sister. Her purpose was clear from the moment she arrived on this earth, and it has not wavered in her more than 50 years here. She is a caretaker. She nurtures every man, woman, child, and animal in her sight, no exception. When she and her young family moved into their forever home, they wound up next door to a lovely elderly couple. From Day 1 and all the years that followed, the whole family took this couple under their wing, and the relationship was reciprocal, too. The elderly couple filled in doing menial tasks and helping with the family pets, and the young family provided the grit and the gusto needed by the old folks. Now that the couple are in their 90’s, SGH always has concern on the fore-front of her mind.
SGH and family have been down on the island visiting with me for a couple weeks now. This morning, she placed a call to home to check on Jack & Ann. After a couple of tries the call was finally answered, she learned that old Jack had passed away that morning at 8 am. SGH called and told me, she was devastated.
By early afternoon, we had agreed to meet at a nail salon to have some bonding time together. I arrived first and was seated. Across from my chair was a beautiful older woman holding onto a leash that held on the other end a magnificent Standard Poodle with a perfectly coifed smoky gray coat. As he laid beside her, he was mannerly and well-behaved. This is an unusual sight to see in a nail salon, don’t you agree? – yet there he was. SGH arrived shortly thereafter and took the seat beside me. Knowing that she is very spiritually connected, I looked over at her and asked, “Have you received any signs from old Jack yet?”, she responded that while she was waiting at the Draw Bridge, she had sent off a silent prayer to him saying, ‘Let me know you’re ok, Jack’. We both nodded and fell silent. SGH has many stories of spiritual contact of the recently departed, she’s been gifted with that grace. Most of those times, that contact comes in the form of an animal. So, then I looked over at her again and said, “Maybe you will have an animal encounter today, maybe it’s that dog in front of us who seems oddly out of place.” SGH looked back at me and said, “He is a great dog, look how good he is laying there, is it a boy?” With that statement fresh off her lips, the Poodle stood up to stretch, and as he did, he turned and looked straight at us and his collar revealed his name was Jack.
You can’t make this stuff up. If you know, you know….
