It has been written that Love is a complicated thing. I agree as there are so many different forms of love. There is parental love, sibling love, romantic love and passionate love for an interest or object – to name just a few. But, no matter the form, the essence of love itself is the glue that holds our lives together. It’s like a knitting stitch, it forms a running top stitch that binds us to our soul.
There is sweet importance in giving love or being loved. The mere act can bring mighty changes to a soul. One may experience instinctive feelings or driving passion or even an enduring calm – all stemmed from feelings of love. Most folks only think of love in terms of romantic love, and if you are lucky enough in life to know that kind of love, well…fortune has shined down on you. Yet, the other forms of love are equally important, even vital, to a soul seeking enlightenment.
All along your journey, love is never far away. Contrary to popular believe, love is not rare – it just takes work. Love, in any form, must be cultivated in order to be a powerful presence in your life. Like my grandmother used to say, “you reap what you sow”. When we think of our hearts as a garden, tending to our love crop becomes a mission for reaching the greatest aspect of human life.
In 1967, The Beatles wrote their magical song, “All You Need is Love”. It was to my musical ear an epiphany of sorts for in 1967 my parents gave me a little sister. Pretty shocking really as I was their youngest child and I was pushing 16 years of age. So, when Sister Golden Hair was born it was hard not to think of her as a love child for, she possessed the kindest most loving heart ever sent from heaven. Also, as time revealed, she was born to a purpose – and that purpose is now realized as she and I are the only ones left of our little family.
St. Valentine’s Day is a favorite holiday of mine. A day set aside to celebrate Love in all its forms! So folks, take time this February season to celebrate a form of love you have cultivated in your life…reach down and give that doggie or kitty an extra pat pat, reach for the phone and call that sibling or friend you’ve been meaning to connect with, gather your kids or grandkids for a romp in the park! It all about Love!
“All you need is Love… All you need is Love, everybody… All you need is Love, Love… Love is all you need.”
~ John Lennon & Paul McCartney
